Golestan Pastry is a traditional Iranian bakery seeking a Pastry Chef to strengthen the pastry team and cover staff shortages for its new branch located in West Vancouver. We are also launching a new program for training people interested in developing their pastry skills.
JOB SUMMARY:
The Pastry Chef will inspire, develop, oversee, and manage the pastry program. The ideal candidate will require a knowledge of traditional Iranian bread-making, fine pastries and specialty dessert items as well as other pastry skills. He/she should be passionate about the artistry of classical baking techniques and procedures and be able to pass these skills on to others.
Essential duties and responsibilities:
• Assist with overseeing the day-to-day operation of the kitchen
• Serves as an educator as well as an inspirational, committed, and responsible leader to Golestan pastry team
• Maintain exceptional kitchen cleanliness and equipment operation to optimal specifications
• Design creative and innovative pastries, desserts, and breads for both the Iranian and Canadian customer base
• Lead by example, inspiring staff to deliver memorable pastries and desserts with pride
• Maximize resources and inventories by managing cost and monitoring inventory and budgets to ensure the best use of inventory and allocation of expenses
• Under the direction of the Executive Chef, initiate and execute specialty projects as required
• Other duties may be added from time to time
Required experience and qualifications:
• Minimum 3 years’ experience leading a pastry driven operation
• Experience working in and managing a bakery and pastry department with a capacity exceeding 100 types of products both classical and traditional ones
• Experience curating and managing inventory with both fiscal responsibility and award garnering intentions
• Knowledge and ability to execute classical and traditional (Iranian) pastry techniques
• Knowledge of and experience in classical and traditional bread making
• An awareness and active interest in food trends and contemporary developments within pastry
• Ability to lead, train, and motivate junior members of staff
• Strong verbal and written English and Farsi communication skills
• Superior conflict resolution skills, with the ability to relate professionally to all levels of staff, management, clientele, suppliers, and partners
• Excellent planning and organizational skills, including the ability to handle conflicting deadlines and prioritize multiple tasks
• A strong work ethic and commitment to a premium level of quality
• Comfortable when dealing with media, public speaking, and VIP guests
• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays
