Position Overview
We are seeking a committed Assistant Restaurant Manager to support the daily operations of our busy food service establishment. The ideal candidate will have supervisory experience in the food service industry and a strong understanding of customer service, food safety, and restaurant procedures. Working closely with the Restaurant Manager, this role helps oversee staff, maintain operational standards, and ensure the delivery of an excellent guest experience.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Ø Plan, organize, and oversee daily restaurant operations to ensure smooth and efficient service.
Ø Analyze budgets, monitor revenues, and evaluate daily operations to maintain and increase restaurant profits.
Ø Develop and manage budgets for food, ingredients, alcohol, kitchen supplies, and cleaning materials.
Ø Monitor labour costs and assist in determining staffing needs based on daily and weekly business levels.
Ø Recruit, train, supervise, and support staff, including onboarding new employees and conducting performance reviews.
Ø Prepare and manage staff work schedules, coordinate shifts, and monitor staff performance to maintain service standards.
Ø Oversee food preparation, product quality, presentation, and consistency to ensure compliance with food safety standards.
Ø Assist in costing food products and services and ensure proper portion control and waste reduction.
Ø Organize, maintain, and monitor inventory; order supplies as required; and ensure proper stock rotation.
Ø Ensure that all health, sanitation, and safety regulations are followed throughout kitchen and front-of-house operations.
Ø Address and resolve customer complaints or concerns, ensuring a positive and welcoming guest experience.
Ø Participate in marketing plans, promotional activities, and their implementation to support business growth.
Ø Support or lead cash handling, daily sales checks, financial reporting, and administrative documentation as needed.
Ø Collaborate closely with kitchen and service teams to maintain operational standards, efficiency, cleanliness, and service speed.
Ø Determine the type of services to be offered and assist in implementing operational procedures and continuous improvement initiatives.
Requirements
• Completion of secondary school is required; additional training in hospitality or business is an asset.
• Experience in the food service industry, including work in a supervisory or shift leadership role, is required.
• Knowledge of food safety standards, or willingness to obtain food safety certification after hiring.
• Strong communication, leadership, and customer service skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment and handle multiple priorities.
• Flexibility to work various shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, based on operational needs.
• Basic familiarity with POS systems, inventory monitoring, or administrative tasks is an asset.
