Our Delta, BC facility is the centre for our Western Canada operations. We take pride in ensuring timely and reliable deliveries, providing excellent customer service, and promoting healthier food options. We are currently growing our logistics team and are looking for a dependable Local Truck Driver to support daily delivery operations across the Lower Mainland.
Position Summary:
The Local Truck Driver will be responsible for transporting customer orders using company-owned 5-ton straight trucks, ensuring that products are delivered safely, on time, and in excellent condition. This is a customer-facing role that includes loading/unloading, customer interactions, and vehicle care, in addition to driving.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Safely operate a 5-ton straight truck to transport food products to customers across the Lower Mainland, including retailers, wholesalers, and specialty grocers.
Load and unload goods manually or using appropriate material-handling equipment (e.g., pallet jacks).
Verify shipment accuracy by checking invoices, bills of lading, and delivery instructions before dispatch and upon delivery.
Collect cash or cheque payments from customers at the time of delivery and submit all received payments to the Accounts Receivable Clerk in accordance with company procedures.
Ensure customer satisfaction by providing professional, courteous service at each delivery location; obtain signatures and confirm order details.
Report any product damages, discrepancies, or claims noted on the delivery manifest promptly to the operations team or dispatch.
Maintain cargo safety and integrity, ensuring products are adequately secured during transport.
Conduct daily pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspections to identify any vehicle issues and maintain safety logs.
Keep the assigned vehicle clean, fueled, and in good working condition; report any maintenance needs.
Accurately complete and submit all required documentation, including delivery confirmations, inspection reports, and logbooks.
Communicate with dispatch regarding route changes, delays, or any challenges encountered during delivery.
Qualifications:
Completion of secondary school is required.
Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence with Air Brake Endorsement.
A clean driving abstract (to be submitted with the application).
Prior experience in delivery driving or logistics is an asset, but not mandatory.
Familiarity with GPS, route planning, and safe driving practices.
Key Competencies:
Physically capable of loading and unloading goods (up to 50 lbs).
Strong sense of responsibility, time management, and attention to detail.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for customer interaction.
Ability to work independently and problem-solve on the road.
Knowledge of food handling standards is an asset.
Working Conditions:
Day shifts, typically Monday to Friday, with occasional weekends or extended hours based on delivery volume.
Frequent lifting, bending, and walking during deliveries.
Fast-paced and time-sensitive environment with multiple drop-off locations per shift.
Work is primarily performed in delivery vehicles and customer locations.
