Job Overview:
Interior painters apply paint, stain, and finishes to interior surfaces of residential and commercial buildings. They prepare surfaces, use various painting tools, ensure precise application, collaborate with clients on colour selection, prioritize safety, and work independently or in teams to complete projects efficiently.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Surface Preparation & Restoration: Prepare, clean, and prime surfaces using advanced methods including scraping, sanding, sandblasting, hydro-blasting, and steam-cleaning. Expertly remove old wallpaper/loose paint, repair structural cracks and holes, and apply appropriate sealers to ensure optimal paint adhesion.
- Material Customization: Precisely mix and thin various paint types to achieve specific colors, textures, and finishes as required by project specifications.
- Expert Application: Apply paint, specialized coatings, wallpaper, and other decorative finishes to interior and exterior surfaces with high precision, ensuring a professional-grade aesthetic.
- Client Consultation & Estimating: Provide professional advice to clients regarding color schemes and material choices. Conduct thorough site assessments to provide accurate cost and material estimates.
- Safety & Compliance: Strictly adhere to occupational health and safety (OHS) protocols, including the safe use of ladders and personal protective equipment (PPE), to maintain a zero-accident work environment.
- Equipment Maintenance: Clean and perform routine maintenance on professional painting tools and high-pressure spray equipment (e.g., airless sprayers) to ensure longevity and operational efficiency.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Education: Secondary school graduation certificate required
- Experience: Minimum 1 year of professional experience as a painter
- Must be comfortable working at heights and using ladders and other elevated platforms as part of daily duties
- Must have the ability to distinguish between colors, shades, and textures to ensure accurate color matching and high-quality finishing
Wage & Benefits
- Salary: $25 per hour
- Working hours: 30 to 40 hours per week
- Benefits: 2 weeks of paid vacation or 4% vacation pay
