Education: Secondary (high) school graduation certificate or equivalent experience
Experience: 2 years to less than 3 years of experience in food services sector, with some supervisory experience.
On site: Work must be completed at the physical location. There is no option to work remotely.
Responsibilities and tasks
· Analyze budget to boost and maintain the restaurant’s profitability, specifically monitoring costs related to authentic Himalayan spice imports and specialized inventory.
· Develop and manage budgets to determine the precise cost of food, traditional ingredients, alcohol, kitchen equipment, and cleaning supplies.
· Evaluate daily food handling operations to ensure strict adherence to FoodSafe BC guidelines and authentic Himalayan food preparation standards.
· Modify food preparation and kitchen workflows to minimize waste and support the restaurant's operational budget.
· Organize and maintain kitchen inventory, ensuring adequate stock of specialized Himalayan ingredients, meats, and spices.
· Monitor revenues and kitchen efficiency to determine and optimize labor costs during peak and off-peak service hours.
· Supervise kitchen and service staff, leading and training junior cooks in authentic Himalayan culinary techniques, flavor profiles, and plating styles.
· Enforce British Columbia liquor legislation and regulations across the food service and dining areas.
· Ensure all provincial health and safety regulations are strictly followed by kitchen and front-of-house staff.
· Negotiate vendor arrangements with local and specialty suppliers to secure competitive pricing for food, imported spices, and restaurant supplies.
· Negotiate with clients for customized Himalayan-style catering packages, private events, or the use of restaurant facilities.
· Participate in marketing plans and local promotional campaigns to increase community awareness of Himalayan cuisine in Victoria.
· Maintain the highest cleanliness standards across the kitchen, dining room, prep stations, and general food service areas.
· Step into the kitchen during peak hours to cook, prepare food orders, and assist chefs in maintaining fast ticket times.
· Provide exceptional customer service, occasionally explaining the heritage, flavor profiles, and spice levels of Himalayan dishes to guests.
· Handle cash, debit, and credit transactions accurately using the restaurant’s point-of-sale (POS) system.
· Perform any other duties as required to support changing business needs and restaurant growth.
Credentials: Safe Food Handling certificate
